Anglesea Kindergarten

Hello and welcome from the Anglesea Kinder Committee!

We thought we would take this opportunity to share some of our personal experiences from our years at the kinder to give you a flavour of what life is like for the families of Anglesea Kinder...

Anglesea Kinder is blessed with its location so close to the Anglesea river and beaches. Each four-year-old kinder group spends one day a week at the beach (in summer) or in the bush (in winter). This is one of the unique features of Anglesea and something that the parents love the most.

The kinder has strong philosophical links with nature based learning as well as an ethos of environmental sustainability. We feel this matches our own connection of the land and ocean and is the world’s best classroom!

As part of their commitment to the local community and environment the kinder has a long-standing relationship with ANGAIR and the Anglesea Community Gardens. This includes helping to revegetate local bush areas, cooking pizzas from fresh vegies in the garden, learning about local fauna and dressing the scare crow. Each of these activities are playful while supporting learning and social outcomes.

The kinder committee was instrumental in the years gone by to raise money for the fabulous new kinder building. There is a beautiful landscaped garden with loads of spaces to be active, creative as well as destructive!

The environmental commitment extends to the outdoor area where all materials are as natural as possible avoiding plastics and rubber where alternatives offer an equally safe option.

In addition to the tree filled outdoor space there are two large classrooms where children have their home groups but are able to intermingle with kids in the other group, extending their social interactions and developing relationships with the other teachers.

The Anglesea Kinder is a great place to get to know the local community and lots of new parents join the committee to forge connections and friendships that carry through to primary school and beyond.

In 2018 some of the teachers started the GEM program with the children as part of a resilience building program. GEM stands for Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness and the children practice age appropriate lessons each week. In term 3 they have started a kindness tree where acts of kindness are celebrated amongst the children. They also have the opportunity to participate in yoga which the children love.

These are just some of the reasons we love Anglesea and encourage you to come and check it out. The old cliché ‘It takes a village…’, well, Anglesea is that village. Feel free to get in touch to ask any questions.

Warmly,

Anglesea Parents Group.
