CDS not a replacement for your glass-only bin

Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme (CDS Vic) might be here, but it’s not a replacement for your kerbside glass-only bin.

CDS Vic targets drink containers that most commonly contribute to litter and are often consumed away from home, such as plastic bottles, soft drinks, aluminium cans, and small fruit juice cartons.

But not every glass bottle (and no jars at all) are eligible for a 10c refund, but they are all welcome in your glass-only bin.

Remove the lids from these empty bottles and jars and pop them into your purple-lidded bin:

  • Beauty products eg foundation, face and eye creams
  • Beer, wine and spirits
  • Chutney and relish
  • Coloured bottles and jars eg amber, clear, green
  • Condiments such as Dijon, wholegrain mustard etc
  • Cough syrup
  • Crushed ginger and minced garlic
  • Curry pastes
  • Instant coffee
  • Jam and honey
  • Mayonnaise
  • Olive oil
  • Sauces eg tomato, hoisin, fish, satay etc
  • Spice bottles
  • Vinegar
  • Vegemite
  • Vitamins
  • Wine bottles

Broken glass bottles and jars are also accepted in the glass-only bin. And remember to remove ALL lids.

Metal lids (like beer caps) go in the recycling bin (yellow lid). Aluminium lids and small plastic lids go in the landfill bin because they’re too small to be correctly sorted at the recycling facility.
