IDAHOBIT

We celebrated International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination on 17 May 2024, proudly raising the rainbow flag at Council office in Torquay.

Thanks everyone who went rainbow!

Youth event

We also celebrated IDAHOBIT 2024 with local young people. There were conversations about how to be an ally, awareness raising on LGBTQIA+ issues, and information sharing about where and how to access local support services.

What is IDAHOBIT and why is it important?

According to Minus18, on May 17, 1990 the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from the Classification of Diseases. While this milestone and other advancements in LGBTQIA+ equality are celebrated, the unfortunate reality is that there's still more work to do.

LGBTQIA+ people in Australia still today experience disproportionate rates of bullying, harassment and discrimination.
