Anglesea Art Space

AAS-External-SCS.jpg

Art Space is a community-based shop front gallery run by Surf Coast Shire Council at Kuarka Dorla – the Wadawurrung traditional name for Anglesea River, a place to catch mullet.

The light filled space is available to emerging and established artists of all disciplines (including visual art, performance, installation) to exhibit, work and experiment at a minimal cost.

We strive to support artists to develop professionally, sell artworks, connect with other creatives and widen their audiences.

'Tracks' - A Community Art Showcase

Anglesea Art Space will host ‘Tracks’, a community art installation, during the winter school holidays. Local school students and community groups are invited to create artworks inspired by the species that live along the Surf Coast Shire’s walking tracks and beaches.

Be a part of a Community Art Showcase

About the project

During Term 2 (May and June), students and community groups will create 3D artworks of local species, identifying and learning about them. These artworks will come together to form a creative track, showing the hidden eco-system of our region.

The installation will run during the July school holidays, providing the public with an opportunity to explore and learn about the species that call these tracks home.

Artistic Brief

Here are the key aspects of the brief for participating in the Tracks community art installation:

  • Theme
Explore the diverse species living along the Surf Coast Shire’s tracks, which include those found along rivers and creeks, bushland and beaches.
  • Artwork Type
Create a 3D artwork representing a species from the region, not more than 500 grams each.
  • Size Limit
Artwork should be no larger than a shoebox.
  • Materials
Use readily available and upcycled materials whenever possible.
  • Display Requirements
Artworks must be suitable for either suspension or placement on the ground.
  • Research Component
Each artwork must include a brief description of the chosen species.
  • Group Acknowledgement
All participating groups will be credited, and participants' names may be mentioned, but individual works will not be attributed to specific creators.

At the end of the project, the artwork will be returned to those who created it.

Different living things have different life cycles and depend on each other and the environment to survive.
  • Levels 3 and 4, Earth and space sciences (VCSSU062)
Earth’s surface changes over time as a result of natural processes and human activity.
  • Levels 5 and 6, Biological sciences (VCSSU074)
Living things have structural features and adaptations that help them to survive in their environment.
  • Levels 5 and 6, Biological sciences (VCSSU074)
