Age Friendly Strategy – Bridging Plan 2025

Surf Coast Shire Council’s Age Friendly Strategy 2020-2024 concluded in December 2024. To guide the transition to the next plan, Council has developed a Bridging Plan for the Age Friendly Strategy 2025.

Age Friendly Strategy 2020-2025 Review

In 2025, Council is defining the outcome and priorities of the new Council Plan and Health & Wellbeing Plan. Then we will draft the new Age Friendly Action Plan 2026-2030 to align with the Council Plan’s dates and priorities.

We have also reviewed the Age Friendly Strategy 2020-2024 and a progress report is available on our website. Council has addressed the strategic actions and will continue to focus on the eight key outcome areas in 2025.

Age Friendly Strategy 2020-2025

Council’s Age Friendly Strategy 2020-2024 was developed and adopted by Council at August 2020 meeting.

The strategy sets Council’s new direction, moving from the historical service delivery model to one of building Age Friendly Communities so residents can age well in the place where they live.

Council plays a pivotal role in leading and facilitating communities where people of all ages, regardless of ability or life stage, can live a quality, engaged and meaningful life

Age Friendly Communities

An age-friendly community is one in which older people are valued, respected and actively supported to participate in their community. In 2006, The World Health Organization identified 8 key factors needed to create age friendly communities.

The Age Friendly Community framework provides a lens that ensures our communities are more liveable for everyone.

Age Friendly Victoria Declaration

In 2016, the Age Friendly Victoria Declaration was signed by Surf Coast Shire Council. In signing this declaration, Council has set its commitment to working toward attaining World Health Organization status as an Age Friendly Community.
