Health and beauty premises
Health businesses (which include hairdressers, beauty rooms and salons, tattooing and piercing, colonic irrigation, and any others involving penetration of the skin) must be registered with Council and comply with the Public Health and Wellbeing Act and Regulations.
Registering a new health and beauty business
A new business has to comply with the regulations from the Public Health and Wellbeing Act. An inspection will be conducted by one of our Environmental Health Officers prior to registration approval.
Council offers businesses a service to review health premises plans prior to registration to assess compliance with the Act. To use the service, submit the premises plans with the application to register a health premises and pay the applicable fee.
If you are a proprietor wishing to alter your current premises, or have purchased a premises and wish to transfer an existing health premises registration please contact your Environmental Health Officer.
Health businesses will require annual inspections to renew their registration every year. Low risk hairdressing premises can apply for a one off ongoing registration.
