Anglesea Art Space

AAS-External-SCS.jpg

Art Space is a community-based shop front gallery run by Surf Coast Shire Council at Kuarka Dorla – the Wadawurrung traditional name for Anglesea River, a place to catch mullet.

The light filled space is available to emerging and established artists of all disciplines (including visual art, performance, installation) to exhibit, work and experiment at a minimal cost.

We strive to support artists to develop professionally, sell artworks, connect with other creatives and widen their audiences.

Surf Coast Arts Inc POSTCARDS 2024-2025

11am - 4pm daily

There's something about the repetitive sizing of 12x17cm (or 12x17x12cm for 3D work) that provides a kind of overall snapshot, or regional 'folio' of 90 local artists. 297 artworks showcase an incredible range of mediums, techniques and subjects - an inspiring rhythmic chorus around the room presented by the voluntary organisation Surf Coast Arts inc.

Please note, the Anglesea Art Space will close on Extreme or Catastrophic Fire Danger days.
For information about Council services on fire danger days, visit surfcoast.vic.gov.au.

Minding the exhibition

Exhibiting artists are required to mind the Anglesea Art Space for the duration of their show. At a minimum, the space must be open on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

In the event of unforeseen circumstances:

If an exhibiting artist is unable to fulfil their responsibility to mind the Anglesea Art Space for any reason
(e.g. isolating in relation to Covid, illness, an unexpected commitment), they must arrange for someone to voluntarily fill their shift or arrange to place a notice on the door informing the general public the ‘Anglesea Art Space is closed due to unforeseen circumstances’.

  • If closure is required, please email the Exhibitions and Gallery Support Officer artsteam@surfcoast.vic.gov.au

Extreme or Catastrophic Weather or Fire Danger Ratings:

In the event of an Extreme or Catastrophic Weather or Fire Danger, (FDR issued by the CFA - Country Fire
Authority), Anglesea Art Space is required to activate Council’s Emergency Response Plan to reduce exposure
to unreasonable risks. Employees, volunteers and invigilators will not deliver services or travel in bushfire areas
at the highest risk times. The Exhibitions and Gallery Support Officer will notify artists if the exhibition needs to
be closed.

IMPORTANT: Read terms and conditions to exhibit at Anglesea Art Space

Anglesea Art Space is a community exhibition space, not a private gallery or retail shop.

All funds raised through rental costs and commissions go back into the Art Space program for the purchase of essential items, equipment and program development.

To provide as many opportunities as possible, artists who apply as an individual can be placed in a group exhibition with one or more other artists.

For more information, please contact the Exhibitions and Gallery Support Officer via artsteam@surfcoast.vic.gov.au.
