Winchelsea Bowls Club Sports Lighting project
- Project typeLocal Sports Infrastructure Fund
- Project value$151,157
Winchelsea Bowls Club’s sports lighting project is complete on schedule and a formal opening in partnership with the Victorian Government will be on Friday 11 April.
The community-initiated project included installation of 100 lux LED lighting on four new 13.5-metre towers.
The lighting meets relevant sport lighting standards and Bowls Australia guidelines for night competition, greatly expanding the club’s capacity to cater for a growing population and provide greater accessibility.
The lights can be dimmed for non-competition activities such as night training and social bowls.
The LED system minimises glare for bowlers and light spill to surrounding areas.
Winchelsea Bowls Club contributed $37,539 to the project, with the Victorian Government contributing $112,618 via the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.
Surf Coast Shire Council has managed project delivery.
Club leaders approached Council with the project concept in November 2022 via Council’s online community project proposal portal.
Council’s Community Project Development Program led a project working group including club board members and a representative from Bowls Australia through a detailed process including engagement with specialist lighting company Webb Australia.
Community members are welcome to attend the official opening at the club, 45 Hesse Street, at 6pm on 11 April.
The ceremony will be followed by barefoot bowls under the new lights.
