Thank you for your interest in applying for a position at Surf Coast Shire Council. Here's some information to help you understand the recruitment process and improve your chances of getting an interview
Your application
To be considered for positions at Council, we must receive your application by the closing date and time, and your application must include:

Cover Letter
Your cover letter should introduce yourself and your interest in the advertised position.

Statement addressing the selection criteria
You must provide a statement addressing the selection criteria as outlined in the position description. It’s important you demonstrate clear connections between your qualifications, experience, skills and knowledge against the selection criteria.

Resume
A copy of your most recent, updated resume.

Referees
Referee details are not initially required, however, please ensure you have access to two professional (work related) referees should you be asked to provide them post interview.
Please combine the cover letter, statement addressing the selection criteria and resume into one document.

Notification and Timeframes
Upon submitting your application, we will send a confirmation email to acknowledge that we have received your application.
Shortlisting
Candidates will usually be short-listed within two weeks of the closing date. You can expect a phone call inviting you to attend an interview or an e-mail advising that you were unsuccessful for interview.
Interviews
If you are invited for an interview, the hiring manager will contact you to arrange a time and place for an interview. You will also be sent an email to confirm the interview details. The panel will inform you at the interview when they expect to be in touch with the outcome or update.
If you have any specific requirements, please inform the hiring manager in advance so that we can provide support.
Pre-Employment Background Checks
All new employees must undergo the following checks
- Police check.
- Right to live and work in Australia check.
- Reference checks.
The above checks will be organised by Council after the interview for the recommended candidate.
Surf Coast Shire Council is a Child Safe organisation and requires all employees to hold a current “Employee” Working with Children Check card. Learn more about Council's Child Safe commitment.
Some positions will require a pre-employment medical assessment to be undertaken by the successful applicant before starting work with Council.
If you are the successful applicant, you will be required to provide copies of all relevant qualification documents to the Human Resource team before starting work with Council.
Qualifying Period
Most new employees to the Surf Coast Shire Council will be required to complete a six-month qualifying period.
