Surf Coast Shire Council has declared its intention to discontinue the road reserve and sell Cypress Lane in Torquay, as well as a portion of public land nearby.

Council resolved to invite submissions on the proposed discontinuance of the road and the intent to sell Cypress Lane and a portion of the land known as reserve number three.

The potential sale is conditional on the land being used for a retirement village. It will also only proceed if proponent Coombes Road Pty Ltd’s planning permit is approved by Council.

Community members are able to view Coombes Road Pty Ltd’s amended planning permit application and make a submission.

“We know there is community interest about the proposed development,” Mayor Liz Pattison said.

“It’s important for people to know that our intention to discontinue the road and sell the land does not mean that we are pre-determining the planning permit decision and the development. We’ll consider the planning application on its merits including listening to what submitters have to say.

“Likewise, community feedback will help inform Council prior to a decision about the road discontinuance and the sale of land.

“I encourage interested people to take part in these consultation opportunities, which are running separately however will be advertised at the same time.”

People can visit www.surfcoast.vic.gov.au/CypressLane to make a submission on:

  • the proposed road discontinuance and sale of land (submissions close 7 April)

    and/or

  • the planning permit application (on public exhibition until 31 March).

Council’s decision to commence consultation on the discontinuance of the road reserve and sell land known as Cypress Lane in Torquay was declared at the February Council meeting. Included in this decision was consultation on the intention to remove the reserve status on a 1,790m2 portion of reserve number three - a requirement to sell the land.
