The sandpit, playing with friends, riding the bike, and making things with magnets – Torquay Kindergarten youngsters were quick to respond when sharing their favourite part about kinder.

Applications for Surf Coast Shire Council-run kindergartens for 2026 will open Monday 7 April 2025.

Council-operated kindergartens are:

  • Anglesea Kindergarten
  • Helen M Kininmonth Pre-School Winchelsea
  • Jan Juc Pre-School
  • Kurrambee Myaring Kindergarten in Torquay
  • Lorne Kindergarten and
  • Torquay Kindergarten.

Families can apply for three-year-old and four-year-old kinder programs, which are free thanks to the Victorian Government’s Best Start, Best Life funding.

All of our kindergarten services have The Kinder Tick: a benchmark which ensures a high standard of training and qualifications.

“The kindergarten years are so much fun for children,” Cr Rebecca Bourke said.

“All of Council’s kindergartens have wonderful indoor and outdoor areas, offering an inviting environment for play-based learning.

“We know that children who attend two years of kindergarten are set-up for school – socially, emotionally and academically.

“You can see the benefits in their primary school years and even down the track when they’re in secondary school.”
