The initiative aims to clearly identify Council’s current social and community infrastructure, including playgrounds, sports ovals, kindergartens, meeting spaces, and libraries and to prioritise future investment in this area.

“Developing a cohesive framework for our social infrastructure is vital as our community continues to grow,” said Mayor, Cr Liz Pattison. “By identifying what we have, understanding its condition, and pinpointing what we need in the future, we are ensuring that our community can access the spaces and services necessary for a healthy, connected lifestyle.” “The next stage in this initiative involves validating the State of Play document with key stakeholder groups. This process will take place over the next six months, leading to broader community engagement early next year,” said Cr Pattison.

“Community feedback is vital in shaping the final framework, ensuring that it reflects the priorities and aspirations of all who live, work and visit the Surf Coast Shire.”

Council’s aim is to create an integrated social infrastructure framework by the end of 2025 through the following work:

  • Phase 1 - Our Places and Spaces – State of Play document – Complete (late 2024)
  • Phase 2 - Data Validation and Policy Content with Key Stakeholders (early 2025)
  • Phase 3 – Social Infrastructure Policy Development (early – mid 2025)
  • Phase 4 – Policy endorsement, project prioritisation and implementation plan (mid 2025)
  • Phase 5 – Completed Integrated Social Infrastructure Framework (end of 2025)

The insights gathered from stakeholders and the broader community will be instrumental in developing the Integrated Social Infrastructure Framework, set to be completed by the end of 2025.

“We are committed to working closely with our community to ensure that our social infrastructure meets the needs of our residents both now and in the future,” added Cr Pattison

“This approach not only provides a clear roadmap for future investments but also ensures that our decision-making process is transparent, equitable, and based on community feedback,” she concluded.
