Changes to Christmas waste collections
Due to the holiday season, changes have been made to kerbside waste collections in the Surf Coast Shire from Christmas Day for three days only.
Waste collection drivers will not be working on Christmas Day (Wednesday 25 December) so bins usually collected on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday will be collected one day later.
This means from Wednesday 25 December to Saturday 28 December only:
- Bins normally emptied on Wednesday will be emptied on Thursday.
- Bins normally emptied on Thursday will be emptied on Friday.
- Bins normally emptied on Friday will be emptied on Saturday.
Kerbside bin collection will return to normal collection day on Monday 30 December 2024.
Extra waste and recycling collections will occur for all households between Christmas Day and the middle of January. Check SCRRApp (Surf Coast Rubbish and Recycling App) to see your extra collection dates or visit surfcoast.vic.gov.au/collections and enter your address to download a kerbside collection calendar.
Extra bin collections for the below areas will mean all four bins will be collected on these days:
-
- North Lorne (all properties north of Erskine River),
- Eastern View
- Moggs Creek
- Tuesday 7 January 2025
-
- Moriac urban collection
- Winchelsea urban collection
Please ensure you leave a 0.5m gap between bins to assist the truck drivers to efficiently service your bins. Remember to not over fill you bin,
“We all know during this busy time that extra rubbish accumulates, so it is great to have these extra collections,” said Cr Leon Walker.
“Make sure you use SCRRApp, Surf Coast Shire’s very own rubbish and recycling app. It is so easy to see the bin changes and extra collections for your house on the app.”
“And remember to not overfill your bins, put them out the night before your collection day and bring them back in once they are emptied.”
“There is also an A-Z guide that tells you which bin your rubbish goes in. It’s simple to put the right waste in the right bin with the app,” he said.
The Transfer stations are also opening for longer hours over January:
- Anglesea Transfer Station will be open to commercial waste contractors on Saturdays during summer school holidays.
- Lorne Transfer Station will close at 2pm on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 26 December 2024 to 27 January 2025 (closed Christmas Day).
The Anglesea Transfer Station will remain open to the public seven days a week, except Christmas Day.
Extreme weather may affect the kerbside waste collection and the opening hours of the transfer stations. If changes need to be made to waste services, announcements will be made on Council’s social media pages and on SCRRApp, as soon as they are known. You can also call ahead to check.
