Election signage is prohibited on Council land, in accordance with Council’s Election Advertising Signage on Council Land Policy.

Election signage on private land must comply with Clause 52.05 of the Surf Coast Planning Scheme. The scheme allows election advertising signs without a permit as long as they meet the following:              

  • Only 1 sign on the land
  • Sign must not be animated or internally illuminated
  • Sign cannot exceed a display area of 5 square metres
  • Must only advertise a political event, not held for commercial purposes
  • May include information about a candidate for an election

Election signage cannot be displayed at any stage;

  • 3 months or more prior to the election; or
  • More than 14 days after the election
