Nude beaches
Optional clothing beaches are prescribed by the Nudity (Defined Areas) Act 1983. The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning is responsible for this Act and in the Surf Coast Shire, the prescribed optional clothing beaches are:
Point Impossible
The legal area for nude bathing starts from approximately 350 metres south west of the 53W marker at Point Impossible, then extends south west towards Whites Beach for a distance of approximately 1km.
The area extends from the top of the first dune out towards the ocean to approximately 100m beyond the low water mark.
This area can be accessed from the car park at the end of The Esplanade (55W marker) or the Point Impossible car park (53W marker).
The Act does not permit Nude bathing within the dunes themselves.
Under Council’s Community Amenity Local Law 2021 access to the sand dune area is prohibited. Penalties Apply.

Southside Beach
The legal area for nude bathing starts at a line approximately from Southside Beach car park (150m east of the 81W marker), then extends south west towards Point Addis at a distance of 1km.
The area extends from the base of the cliff towards the ocean to approximately 100m beyond the low water mark.
This area can be accessed from the Southside Beach access stairs (81W marker).
The beach at Point Addis is not a prescribed nude bathing area.
