Winchelsea, Moriac and surrounds projects

Council is working with the Winchelsea community to progress and deliver more than 40 important projects in and around the town. This page provides regular progress updates on some key projects to help raise awareness and keep community members informed.

Current projects

Gathering Space Shelter

The new Barwon River Gathering Space Shelter is open for use, including its free barbecue.

Winchelsea Pool Redevelopment

The much-loved Winchelsea Pool — first opened in 1963 — is being redeveloped after many years of providing summer fun for local families.

Barwon River Adventure Play Space

Works are about to start on the new Adventure Play Space beside the Barwon River.

Barwon River Loop Walk

This project is focused on extending the river loop, replacing an existing concrete culverts river crossing with a pedestrian bridge and installing two viewing platforms.

Winchelsea Common recreation space

The former go-kart area at Winchelsea Common is revitalised and reopened, with new paths providing access to beautiful viewing areas.

Globe Theatre

Works have progressed to replace the termite-damaged floor in this much loved community building.

Eastern Reserve netball courts

Planning underway of reconstruction of two netball courts at Eastern Reserve.

Winchelsea Greening & Stormwater Treatment

Council is committed to taking action to help address climate change and its associated impacts.

Funded by the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, Council is undertaking the "Winchelsea Greening and Stormwater Treatment" project.

Moriac Community Hall

Moriac Community Hall is being made fire ready with landscaping and ember-proofing works to occur across May and June, 2024.

Winchelsea Memorial Grandstand Upgrade Project

Upgrading the Winchelsea Memorial Grandstand to improve the building safety and accessibility, provide greater functionality, and create an expanded library, museum and workspace for RSL Winchelsea.

Winchelsea Bowls Club Sports Lighting project

Works on Winchelsea Bowls Club's sports lighting project is scheduled to start in January and be complete by mid-March 2024.

Pollocksford Road Bridge

The Pollocksford Road Bridge. Gnawarre has been closed until repairs can be made to the bridge structure.

325 Mousley Drive, Winchelsea

Surf Coast Shire Council gives notice of its intention to gift 2504m2 of land from 325 Mousley Drive, Winchelsea, for the State Emergency Services.

Any person proposing to make a submission must do so by Tuesday 2 July 2024.
